More Mechanicals

18 Aug 2007 at 12:28

It didn't start well today, 4.5 miles into the ride the rear brake fell off, entirely my fault, I'd forgotten to put the bolt back in after replacing the wheel. So a sprint (as much as you *can* sprint into the 20mph wind) home and I sorted that out. [God knows how it's actually possible to design a frame where you need to remove the brake to remove the wheel, surely it's a basic requirement in the design process? - It's not just KHS, Surly are the same, and probably other brands too - morons.]

The next mechanical (if you ignore the rear disc pads wearing out*) was the lockout lever on the Fox Vanillas jamming up so I couldn't unlock or lockout the forks without using a lot of force (or a rock).

Just another typical ride, one day I'll get to ride where my bike doesn't break, it's not windy, it's not cold, it's not raining. I don't hold out much hope of that happening before the end of the year, though.

33.2miles | very very very very windy (windier than yesterday), heavy drizzle, 11degrees.

* 4 weeks until 2008 XT brakes are available.
