Leaving on an Aquaplane

26 Jul 2007 at 13:41

Dear Diary, today I thought it would only be windy, I was wrong it was very very very windy, then it became very very very 'I can't see the goddamn road' wet, and car drivers kept doing retarded things - I think the disabled might get free licenses because the Government feels sorry for them.

I spent most of the last hour of the ride aquaplaning and riding downhill slower than I would along the flat.

Diary, I can't remember the last time I didn't get wet. It's Another 1,000 mile month but all I can think of is the hundreds of lost miles because of the horrendous weather.

I must remember to empty the water out of the frame and wheels.

I thought Sheldon Brown proved you can't aquaplane on a bicycle, slip and slide but not actually aquaplane.

Oh and dont let the tour stuff get you down bikes are still ace!

Well I call it aquaplaning when you hit a watery surface and carry on in a straight line despite the wheel being turned.

That's just because you're rubbish at riding a road bike Matt :)

Does look bloody miserable out today.

"That's just because you're rubbish at riding a road bike Matt :)"

It's only the third time I've ridden when the road's are a river, infact it's gripper when it's a river, doesn't help that some roads are slippy in the dry.

And it's not my fault my bike freaks out in the wind, I consistently get speed wobbles coming into Adlington at 30 now, exactly the same spot each time, weird.
